Shop Black-owned


From the passing of loved ones to the changes in lifestyle, the COVID pandemic disproportionately affected underrepresented groups in incredibly heartbreaking ways. One negative impact was the closure and revenue decline of Black-owned businesses, due to less foot traffic, the quick, adaptable skills needed in a move towards digital, etc.

PROJECT NAME Black-Owned Winter Holiday Fair

PROJECT DESCRIPTION With the recommendations from the community, myself and my director at Google partnered with our Perks team to create an online fair highlighting 160+ local Black-owned businesses across the U.S. who provided some sort of ‘perk’ for shopping with them. This ranged in the form of a discount, a bundle package, access to other products specially made, etc. We then encouraged Googlers to shop with these businesses for their winter holiday shopping.

IMPACT Over $50K+ in sales with 67% reporting, extrapolated to ~$75K all things equal. This is now an institutional program, where Black owned-businesses are displayed year-round with existing and new businesses added. The initiative also encouraged expansion via the highlight of products and services from other underrepresented communities.
